Meet Michelle.
Michelle began her journey in funeral industry in 2018 and has held various roles in funeral homes and mortuaries. Prior to this, she worked as a hairdresser for over 30 years.
Why did you join the funeral industry?
After organizing two family members' funerals for my husband's family, I realised how challenging it can be for families to go through the process during what can be the hardest time of their lives. I wanted to use my skills to take the pressure off their loved ones and help create a special farewell.
What do you like about being a funeral arranger?
I want to alleviate the pressure from families by guiding them through the unknown aspects of the funeral industry and helping them arrange a fitting farewell for their loved ones. Additionally, being a part of a community is something I cherish. I find great support from my colleagues, as we work together to prioritise the needs of the families we serve.
What’s the most remarkable funeral you have ever arranged?
I organised a service for a lady's husband who wanted a simple, no-fuss service. However, the loved ones left behind wanted to still say goodbye in their own way, so we arranged a small immediate family service.
During the service, a grandson surprised his grandmother by taking her hand to dance to his grandfather's favorite song. Other family members also joined them, and it was a beautiful and perfect way to say goodbye.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I always collect different seashells and rocks every time I walk on the beach or travel to another country; I’m always bringing one or two home. On weekends, I enjoy spending time relaxing and exploring the Mid North Coast.
What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
Travel and camping are two of my favorite things to do. I am a G-MA, which is short for grandmother or Nan, but I feel too young to be called that. I have one 4-year-old grandson.
Bali and Vegas are my favorite places I've been to, although they are completely different from each other. Bali has the best food, while Vegas is the most exciting and fun place to go.
My family and I highly recommend Simplicity Funerals at Laurieton NSW. The staff were very caring and helpful. At a time of great distress they were very supportive, knowledgeable and professional. Our greatest thanks, particularly to Michelle.
